My stay at the resort had its ups and downs. While the staff were incredibly helpful and the private onsen was a nice touch, the room I got faced the parking lot and the dining experience didn't live up to my expectations. I appreciated the size of the room but found the small bathroom quite inconvenient. Overall, it's decent but not without its flaws.

Rooms
6.0
The room was quite spacious, but it faced the parking lot, which was disappointing. The bathroom was tiny and hard to access, so it was a bit of a struggle.
Service
7.0
The staff were friendly and accommodating, assisting with pick-ups and inquiries, though their English was limited.
Location
6.0
The location was a bit isolated, far from town, but offered nice views and a serene ambiance. A 7-Eleven was conveniently a short walk away.
Dining
5.0
The buffet meals were quite underwhelming with limited variety; it didn't feel worth the price paid.
Facilities
7.0
The onsen facilities were nice, with both indoor and outdoor options, but the indoor setting diminished the experience.

I found the hotel to be better than I anticipated, given it is a larger establishment primarily aimed at tour groups. The location was convenient, and our room, while not spacious, had lovely mountain views. The dining options were decent but not particularly memorable. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, though not without its minor shortcomings.

Rooms
7.0
The Japanese room we had was quite large by Japanese standards, offering beautiful mountain views. However, the ensuite was small.
Service
8.0
The service was generally good, especially the people who came to prepare our tatami mattress and were very helpful in assisting us to the bus stop.
Location
9.0
The hotel is centrally located in Sounkyo, making it easy to access attractions and a 7-Eleven just across the street is a nice touch.
Dining
6.0
The buffet options for breakfast and dinner were fairly decent, though they felt a bit more catered for tour groups. The variety was acceptable, but not outstanding.
Facilities
7.0
The indoor onsen features three separate pools, while the semi-outdoor rotenburo was a bit on the small side.

6.0/10

My stay at the hotel was a mixed bag. While the onsen experience was enjoyable, I was really let down by the room cleanliness and the staff's lack of communication. The prime location near Sounkyo is a definite plus, and the dining options exceeded my expectations, but overall I felt the hotel did not live up to its 4-star rating due to the inconsistent service and hygiene issues.

Rooms
5.0
The room I stayed in was quite small and not up to cleanliness standards, as I found the toilet unclean upon checking in. This really affected my comfort level during the stay.
Service
5.0
The staff's attitude was dismissive when I raised concerns about the cleanliness of the toilet. They did send someone to clean it, but the lack of concern from the initial staff member was disappointing.
Location
9.0
Located conveniently near the Daisetsuzan National Park and local attractions, the location was one of the highlights of my stay. I enjoyed being able to explore the beautiful surroundings easily.
Dining
8.0
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of food at the buffet. Both breakfast and dinner surpassed my expectations, making dining a positive aspect of my stay.
Facilities
6.0
The onsen facilities were great, but the fact that they were open for day usage made them quite crowded at times, which could detract from the overall experience.

This hotel offers a surprisingly pleasant stay despite its large size, with spacious Japanese-style rooms and a nice onsen experience. While the dining options are decent, they may not be the best in terms of quality, especially considering the larger quantities served. The location is convenient for exploring the surrounding gorge, though it can feel a bit distant from any town center activities.

Rooms
8.0
The Japanese-style room we had was large and provided lovely mountain views, though ours faced the parking lot instead of the beautiful stream on the other side.
Service
8.0
The service was generally helpful, with staff assisting us in getting to the bus stop and communicating comfortably in English.
Location
7.0
The hotel is centrally located in Sounkyo Onsen, close to a 7 Eleven and just a short walk to the ropeway and waterfalls, though it is a bit far from the town center.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience featured a buffet with a good variety, but the quality was just decent and didn't quite justify the price.
Facilities
7.0
The onsen facilities were adequate with several pools, offering a nice opportunity to relax, but the semi-outdoor rotenburo felt a bit small.
